CONGRESSIONAL SUPPORT OF ACCOUNTABLE CARE CONTINUES
Last week, the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee held a hearing examining long-standing challenges with MACRA and physician payment. NAACOS appreciates Farzad Mostashari and the team at Aledade for representing the accountable care community and highlighting how ACOs improve patient outcomes while lowering costs. Read NAACOS’ letter to the committee. Additionally, the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced the Health Care Efficiency Through Flexibility Act (H.R. 5347), legislation supported by NAACOS and our members that addresses quality reporting burden for ACOs. Finally, the House Ways and Means Committee markup advanced bills addressing Medicare’s budget neutrality rules that result in physician payments cuts and legislation to proactively reduce DME fraud.
NAACOS is encouraged to see Congress advancing reforms that support ACOs. Get involved by participating in the NAACOS Advocacy Summit on September 16-17 in Washington DC, a unique opportunity to engage with policymakers and their staff. Registration will open in early June. |

A recent KFF article highlights key updates to Medicare Advantage (MA) that will impact patients and consumer protections. While new requirements improve transparency, other changes make it more difficult for patients to navigate their plans. A recent Americal Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (AJHP) article highlights that the U.S. prescription drug spending is projected to increase by 10 to 12 percent in 2026, driven largely by specialty therapies, including oncology, endocrine, and high-cost injectable drugs. As demand for these advanced therapies continues to expand, it underscores the need for more effective cost management strategies and innovative care delivery models.
